Physiotherapy is a multi-disciplinary profession whose aim is to encourage and support the return to normal following illness, surgery, disease or trauma, for individuals of all ages. This is often described as 'rehabilitation'. So whether your problem is a sprained ankle, back pain, post operative recovery, sports injury, chest problems, injury at work or many other different conditions, physiotherapy can assist you in your recovery.
Your diagnosis, treatment plan and goals will be set after obtaining a detailed history of your problems and an objective examination.
Some of the likely treatment interventions may include manipulation, mobilisations, massage, electrotherapy such as ultrasound, hydrotherapy, re-education, ergonomic advice, tailor-made rehabilitation and exercise programmes.
The benefits of physiotherapy include:
Spinal problems (back and neck) such as sciatica, slipped discs, joint degeneration and arthritis, stiff and painful necks, whiplash and referred upper and lower limb pain from the spine.
Headaches and migraines – those who suffer from regular headaches or migraines may not be aware that often these problems originate from underlying neck problems that can often be dealt with satisfactorily with physiotherapy.
Orthopaedic surgery – Physiotherapy is an essential part of a person’s recovery following orthopaedic surgery such as replacements, reconstructions or simple arthroscopies on hips, knees, shoulders, elbows and hands. This is a specialist area for AM Physio who have excellent rehabilitation facilities.
Sports injuries – With AM Physio’s personal experience in a variety of different sports including competing at international level, we have a strong understanding of what is required to get an athlete (social or competitive) back to full fitness and optimising their ability. Again this is a strong area of interest and experience for AM Physio.
